FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Daumet’s gold alloys
What are the main types of gold color used?
Daumet works with a variety of gold colors, including 24K pure gold, 18K rose/pink gold, and our own 18K white gold and 21K champagne gold. These colors are created using our patented gold + tungsten alloys, ensuring both beauty and durability.
Is it possible to create a new gold color?
Yes, using our advanced alloying capabilities, we can create custom gold colors to meet your specific design requirements. Our technology allows for precise control over the hue and intensity of the gold color alloy.
What is white gold?
White gold is an alloy of gold mixed with other white metals to achieve a desired level of whiteness on the CIELab scale. In the US, it typically consists of 75% gold, 15% copper, 6% silver, and 2% nickel. However, due to nickel allergies, this composition is not used in the EU. In the EU, white gold is commonly made with 75% gold, 7% copper, 5% silver, and 13% palladium, known as “palladium white gold”, which is often too gray and requires rhodium plating for a whiter finish. Traditional whitening options include rhodium plating, naturally white silver, and more expensive platinum. Daumet’s white gold is made using a patented alloy of gold and tungsten, creating the whitest and most durable 18k white gold available.
What is a gold alloy?
A gold alloy is a mixture of gold with other metals to enhance its strength, durability, and color. Common alloying metals include silver, copper, and palladium. At Daumet, our key expertise is to use tungsten to create unique and innovative gold color alloys.
What is gold karat?
Gold karat is a measure of the purity of gold, with 24 karats representing pure gold. Lower karat numbers, such as 18K or 21K, indicate the presence of other metals in the alloy, which can alter the color and improve the durability of the gold.
